The benefits of attending a prenatal yoga class are far beyond what you can receive by simply modifying a regular yoga or exercise class. Our MamasteYoga™ classes are specifically designed to help prepare the body and the mind for labor, delivery and motherhood. The exercises are carefully chosen to be safe for mom and baby, to maintain or correct posture and to relieve neck and lower back pain, sciatica symptoms, cramps and other common complaints associated with pregnancy. You will learn specialized movements and breathing techniques to be used during labor. Learn to relax on command and to keep a positive outlook while clearing the mind of the stresses associated with pregnancy and motherhood. Deepen the bond with your baby and enjoy support and encouragement from the other students. Many lifelong friendships start in prenatal yoga classes! These classes are appropriate for both beginning and experienced yoga practitioners and conform to the safety guidelines of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for exercise during pregnancy. You must be in your second or third trimester to participate. A physician’s release is also required, available online here.

Please bring a pillow for comfort. You are also encouraged to bring your own yoga mat and blankets if you have them (available for purchase in the boutique).

*Prenatal Yoga Make-Up Policy: It may be possible to make up in Mimi's other Prenatal Yoga classes. Make-ups are never guaranteed and must be completed during your 6-week series. This is a courtesy the instructor extends to students if space is available in other classes and if making up works with your schedule. Your tuition is holding your space and missed classes may not be made up in subsequent series. (Once signed up for series, post on the facebook Mimi's Mamaste make-up admin group if you have to miss class.)

Learn and practice mindful yoga postures you can do together to prepare the body and mind for labor and delivery and to nurture Mom in safe and gentle ways. No previous yoga experience required. Come in loose clothing, ready to breathe, stretch and strengthen mindfully. Mom must be in her second or third trimester and have her physician's release for exercise. 

Please bring a pillow for Mom's comfort.  Recommended for couples in week 13-34.



YOGA TO SUPPORT CHILDBIRTH

Bring your partner and/or doula to share or review with them all the tools we learn in our MamasteTM prenatal yoga classes.

Learn how to use the breathing techniques you practice in the weekly prenatal yoga classes during each stage of labor to help relieve tension and anxiety. 

Partners will also learn yoga philosophy and tools in this unique workshop.  Have them feel empowered as they will have a "flexible plan" to use in labor. With this class, your support team can learn how to cue you in a way that is consistent with your weekly yoga class, which will feel familiar and comfortable to you by the time you are in labor.  By the end of class, they will know how and when to use those techniques to support you in each phase of labor.  They will feel confident about what to look for, expect, and do at each stage. We will not be doing lots of yoga postures, but there will be some practice of positions for labor.

Wear comfortable clothes.

Bring your husband, partner, mother, sister, doula, or whoever will be with you in labor and birth. Price is per couple and one additional support person can join for free. 

Highly recommended during the second or third trimester. Repeat couples get a 50% discount (call studio at 972.732.0206 for discount). Bring your rebozo if you have one.

As with our prenatal classes, the exercises are carefully designed to be safe for mom and baby, to maintain or correct posture, to begin restrengthening abdominal and other muscles, and to relieve postnatal discomfort and emotional symptoms. Deepen the bond with your new baby and enjoy support and encouragement from the other moms. These classes are appropriate for both beginning and experienced yoga practitioners.

Appropriate age range for babies is 6 weeks (8 weeks for C-section) up to about 12 months (pre-walkers only). Crawlers must be well-supervised as our studio is not fully baby-proofed.

babymassageThe birth of your child is a magical and exciting moment for everybody in the family. However, the first days and weeks of the life of your newborn can be a very challenging time, especially for first-time moms. Exhausted, overwhelmed, worried for their babies, some moms feel powerless and frustrated.

The Baby’s First Massage workshop teaches you a simple way to create a relaxing, rewarding, nourishing and bonding time for the whole family. You'll learn:
  • when and how to massage your newborn in a nurturing, gentle way that will help baby feel safe and loved and encourage growth and healing
  • the benefits of massage for your newborn
  • when not to massage
  • what you need to prepare for the massage
  • to recognize the “time-out” cues
  • to recognize the “talking” cry from the “I need help” cry and how to react to each
  • ways to calm your baby
  • the Baby’s First Massage routine, which is so simple a child can learn it and gentle enough to use safely on any baby (even pre-term babies, once they are medically stable)
  • massage techniques to relieve gas and constipation
You'll also receive a booklet with pictures and everything you need to continue learning the massage techniques at home.

This workshop is designed for pregnant women in their last trimester and new moms and infants up to 2 months old. Please email MiMi to inquire about private classes for babies who were born preterm or who have special needs. Bring baby bag, diapers, wipes, a firm pillow and blanket.

Graduates of this class are highly encouraged to attend Infant Massage series to build on the skills learned in this workshop.

           

“WEAR-YOUR-BABY” BALLET
with Meghan Talley
Individual drop-in or use your class pass

“Wear-Your-Baby” Ballet is the perfect combination for new moms wanting to get that workout in without leaving their baby at home! The class focuses on basic ballet technique with barre warm-ups and middle combinations. All moves are modified to accommodate baby wearing.

Moms are welcome to bring anything they require for their little ones into the studio and the atmosphere is relaxed. Come enjoy this fun class with your littlest ones!

All babies must be worn in a secure carrier or wrap, back or front carry (ring slings are not recommended). The first few minutes of class will allow time for moms to help babies comfortably into the wrap. There is not an age limit, but the child must be worn at all times.

No dance experience needed. Ballet/dance shoes suggested but may be done barefoot as well.
