JITTERBUG/SWING DANCE SERIES

Do you long to be able to grab your partner and step onto any dance floor with confidence? This summer series with renowned Dallas professional dance instructor Ramiro Gonzalez will have you dancing like the stars in no time! You and your partner will learn the fundamentals of the fun and popular Jitterbug/Swing dance style in an intimate, small-group, non-competitive class setting. You'll be able to enjoy partner dancing to big band, jazz, swing and contemporary music. Your partner won't take a dance class with you? No problem -- sign up with a friend and you can take turns leading/following.

Develop strength, grace, and fluidity while you explore this beautiful art form! Learn basic bellydance postures, movements, steps, and combinations along with a short choreography. Basic finger cymbal techniques will be introduced after the third class. You will be playing and dancing by the end of this fun and challenging 8-week session!

Learn the movements and techniques of traditional Middle Eastern bellydance. Bellydance is an increasingly popular form of fitness, body-mind practice, and personal/artistic expression for women of all ages, sizes and shapes. Celebrate your feminine beauty and power with this ancient art form.

The Basics series is designed for new beginners with little or no prior experience. It will help prepare you for drop-in classes through progressive instruction in basic Bellydance steps and technique. Beginners are also welcome in our drop-in mixed-level bellydance classes (see class schedule); however, the drop-in classes do move faster and assume some knowledge of the basics, so the best place for new beginners to start is in the Basics series.


 
BELLYDANCE ODYSSEY SERIES:
Mysterious Muashashat

Learn technique and movements suited to the stately 10/8 rhythm of classical Arabic music, through a choreography to the ancient song "Lamma Bada Yatathanna" ("When She Begins to Sway"). Students will have the option of performing the choreography as a group outside of class after the series ends.
   
The Odyssey series will focus on specific bellydance topics or techniques and may build upon the concepts taught in other series classes. Series topics will include: finger cymbal fundamentals, classic routines, drum solo dancing, veilplay, Egyptian Saidi (folkloric bellydance), and floorwork and balancing. Concepts, techniques, exercises, and a choreography will be taught during each session.

Note: This series is NOT designed for beginners; prior bellydance experience is highly recommended.



CLASSIC BURLESQUE SERIES

Burlesque is an exciting way to explore sensual movement and release your inner bombshell! This delightful series is a fun way to express yourself while toning up your legs, hips and abs, and even improving your flexibility. Learn classic burlesque technique such as bump and grind and work on walking in high heels. Wear a form-fitting workout top, and bring long gloves, heels and a bra that will fit over your workout top. (Note: there is no nudity in this series!) Challenge your comfort zone and push your own envelope while having a blast.

Nia’s 52 Moves are the building blocks of the Nia conditioning practice. Simple, yet powerful, the Nia Moves are designed to deliver fitness results and fulfill therapeutic needs for self-healing the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Experience the moves of the Base, the Core and the Upper Extremities for a full-body conditioning practice. 52 Moves may seem like a lot to learn, but we'll break it down into an easy three-step process of integrating these moves into your body, nervous system and practice. You will come away with a plethora of tools to stimulate depth, conditioning and creativity into your Nia practice. Seasoned students will love the challenge to test their skill, while new students will love the opportunity to learn and experience the moves!

hooperCalling all hoopers! Let's get our groove on. Join Julia of Sassy Hoops and MoveStudio for a 2-hour open forum hoop jam. This is a non-instructed playtime. Practice your skills and trade tips and tricks with your friends to some fun music. New to hooping or have a friend that wants to try? No worries, Sassy Hoops will have demo hoops of different sizes and varieties for playtime. Come see what the buzz is about and lose yourself in hoop bliss.

This is a community event: $10 is suggested. Please arrive no later than 7:30p. Bring your hoop (if you have one) and water bottle.



HOOP MAKING WORKSHOP

hoopsJoin Julia McPherson of Sassy Hoops for a creative afternoon of hoop making, laughter and hoop dance. You will make and decorate your own adult standard hula hoop with fun tape colors. All supplies will be provided, and best techniques will be shared. Once finished, we'll give our hoops a test spin and learn waist hooping and a few fancy tricks to get you dancing!

Yes, you CAN hula hoop! Hoop dancing is a fun cardiovascular workout for adults and a contemporary take on a favorite childhood pasttime. Get a new spin on exercise with Sassy Hoops!

juliaHoop dancing (or hooping) is done with oversized, weighted hula hoops, making the hoop much easier to control than you may remember from childhood. It helps you:
- build a strong core
- tone abs, back, arms, leg and buns
- increase flexibility and muscle memory
- get in touch with your inner dancer

In the Level 1 series you'll learn how to hoop on your waist, lower abs, chest and neck and also how to perform several off-body movements.

In Level 2, you'll build upon the movements learned in Level 1 by smoothing out transitions, generating flow and fluidity, and focusing on core dance combinations. This series will help deepen your hoop experience with hooping on the thighs, hips, abs, chest and shoulders while exploring expressive dance. Prerequisite: completion of Level 1 or skill evaluation by instructor.

*Sassy Hoop dance hoop is required and available for purchase in the Abundance Boutique at MoveStudio or directly from Julia(register by 3 weeks prior to series start date to select custom colors/design). Email Julia for details and to order your custom hoop once you've registered.

Learn the fundamental moves, style and language of Hip Hop with inspiration from old school moves and new school choreography. Hip Hop is an increasingly popular form of dance fitness, as it involves athletic, powerful moves that will get your heart pumping as well as expressive, creative moves that will let you show a little attitude! 

Designed for new beginners with little or no prior experience. Movements will be broken down for better understanding, and we will work on isolations (hips, shoulders, feet, etc.) that will prepare you for the choreography offered in this series as well as the drop-in classes. Beginners are also welcome in our drop-in Hip Hop Level 1 class (see class schedule).
